Here’s some pictures of Manx Olympic Gold Medallist, Peter Kennaugh‘s Stamp signing session down at the Isle of Man Sea Terminal which happened on Sunday 23rd Sept 2012. The event was a roaring success and was organised by The Isle of Man Post Office.

London 2012 Olympic Games Gold medallist Peter Kennaugh will be exclusively signing limited edition Gold Medal Winners Stamp Sheets, which will be on sale at the Sea Terminal, this Sunday (September 23) between 11.00am and 12.00pm through the Isle of Man Post Office.
Fans of the Manx-born Olympic cyclist will have a unique opportunity to meet their sporting hero and get a piece of history signed as in celebration of the success of Peter and his team mates Steven Burke, Edward Clancy and Geraint Thomas in the Men’s Team Pursuit last month, Isle of Man Post Office has produced a Gold Medal Winners Sheet in a limited edition of 2012 only.
The sheet features the cycling stamps of Isle of Man Post Office’s London 2012 Olympic Games stamp issue, designed by world-renowned fashion designer Sir Paul Smith, along with images of Peter and his team mates taking part in the dramatic race which saw the Great Britain team set a new world record time of 03:51.659.
Peter became the first Manx-born Olympic Champion to win an Olympic gold medal since Sidney Swann, who was part of Great Britain’s rowing eights team at the 1912 Games in Stockholm.

It’s the ideal opportunity for people to meet our Manx cycling hero and get his autograph at the same time. Men’s Team Pursuit Gold Medal Winners Sheet
Isle of Man Post Office is delighted to issue a Gold Medal Winners Sheet in celebration of the success of the Men’s Team Pursuit in the London 2012 Olympic Games, which saw Manx-born Peter Kennaugh as part of the team. Just 2012 numbered sheets will be printed.
Peter Kenanugh, along with team mates Steven Burke, Edward Clancy and Geraint Thomas won the gold medal in a dramatic race in which they set a new world record time of 03:51.659. Team GB were tipped as the favorites and confirmed this position in qualifying.

Less than 24 hours after he rode to victory in the team pursuit, Peter arrived back on the Isle of Man to a hero’s welcome. A huge crowd cheered as he walked through the arrivals area of the Isle of Man Airport holding his gold medal. Peter also joined in with an impromptu rendition of the Island’s national anthem followed by an emotional speech in which he expressed his thanks for the reception. He held his gold medal aloft which prompted an enormous cheer from the crowd that included fans of all ages. He spent an hour signing autographs and having his photograph taken and passed his gold medal to fans – much to the delight of the many children who turned up to meet their hero.

Adam Wright: The experience was very good to see all of the world class archers and the sort of equipment they used and a stadium full of people all very excited about watching the shooting.

LORD COE AUTOGRAPHS IOM OLYMPIC “RUNNERS” STAMP

Lord Seb Coe, the world-famous Great Britain middle-distance runner, and Chair of the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games, has autographed a sheetlet of the superb IOM £1 “runners” 2012 Olympic Games stamp, designed by Sir Paul Smith.
Seb Coe, who headed the Olympic bid to bring the 2012 Summer Olympics to London, won the 1500m gold medal at the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games and successfully and mesmerisingly defended his title four years later at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games, also agreed to be photographed holding the IOM stamps.
Lord Coe, a former conservative MP, and Sir Craig Reedie, IOC Member, are both members of the East India Club in London and had spoken and answered questions together with Sir Keith Mills, Deputy Chair of LOCOG, after a recent “London 2012” dinner for members and their guests.
A range of penetrating and discerning questions were all answered with candour and sparkle but under strict “Chatham House” rules, meaning that nothing may be divulged. Such was the enthusiasm of the distinguished trio answering questions that the event did not finish until after 11pm, an hour way beyond Club custom. The exclusive photograph I was able to take shows Lord Coe holding the IOM stamps as he left his club.
The Olympic story began in February 1894 when the father of the modern Olympic movement, Baron Pierre de Coubertin, visited England as a guest of Sports Club president, Sir John Astley. He had come to England to gather support to re-launch the Olympic Games. Among the people he talked to were the Prince of Wales, Lord Desborough, founder of the British Olympic Association, the Rt Hon Arthur Balfour, the future Prime Minister, and Charles Herbert, Secretary of the Amateur Athletics Association, who helped to design the Olympic track and field programme.
A dinner was held at the Sports Club, (now part of today’s East India Club) in what would be Coubertin’s last planning meeting before the Sorbonne conference in June 1894, where the International Olympic Committee was officially established. From those early beginnings to the present day, the East India Club has retained its connections with the IOC. What a very fitting venue for Lord Coe to autograph this splendid sheet of IOM 2012 Olympic stamps!
